The drive from downtown San Diego is about 45 minutes, and it’s approximately a 2-3 hour drive from Los Angeles, though traffic conditions vary.
Here are transportation alternatives to and from many parts of San Diego, as well as the airports in LA and Orange County.
Carlsbad Village Train Station
Stops at the Carlsbad Village station, offering swift travel south, all the way to downtown San Diego (Santa Fe Depot).
The Coaster also travels north to the Oceanside Station, where Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner train (see below) affords availability to many destinations, including the Orange County airport, downtown Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and as far north as San Luis Obispo.
The Breeze runs through the Carlsbad Village station for access to a variety of locations throughout northern San Diego.
Amtrak Surfliner Train / Oceanside Station
Where does it go? It extends from Downtown San Diego, travels north to Los Angeles (Grand Central Station), Santa Barbara, and continues all the way to San Luis Obispo.
Where to catch it? The Surfliner train is not accessible at our neighboring Carlsbad Village Station, but rather at the nearby Oceanside Station about 3 miles north.
Will ANA take me there? Army and Navy Academy offers personal transport for students to and from the Oceanside Station for a fee. Requested staff escort of unaccompanied minors is offered for an additional fee.

Army and Navy Academy offers personal transportation for students to/from the San Diego Airport and Carlsbad Airport, with the option for drop-off or for a staff member to escort your student inside.
Check with your airline for Unaccompanied Minor age and requirements for travel.
Please contact the Transportation Department for the fees that apply for pickups.
