ABOUT THE ACADEMY
Army and Navy Academy’s tradition of excellence stretches back more than 110 years. Our beachfront campus serves as far more than a home away from home to exceptional young men: it is a learning laboratory where boys can explore, in a supportive environment, their unique capacity as leaders, scholars, and athletes. In a time where young men are encountering systemic difficulties in school and early life, the Academy sets graduates up for lifelong success.

LEARN ABOUT ANA
Army and Navy Academy is a private, college-preparatory military boarding school for boys in grades 7-12. Situated on a 15.1 acre beachfront campus in Carlsbad, California, the Academy focuses on two unique value propositions for parents of middle school and high school boys:
- Use of boy brain science to educate young men
- Virtue development that ensures graduates are well-positioned to better the world
Established in 1910 by Colonel Thomas A. Davis, the Academy’s mission is to forge virtuous young men for life. We accomplish this through a combination of rigorous academics, challenging athletics, and character-building within a structured environment. Cadets engage in an evidence-based curriculum designed specifically for how boys learn, augmented by Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) leadership courses. Outside of the classroom, they are supported by Trainer, Advisor, Coach (TAC) Officers who mentor cadets both academically and in residential life.
With a low student-teacher ratio of approximately 13:1 and a total enrollment of around 275 cadets, the Academy offers boys a plethora of athletic opportunities based around 17 sport teams. These include water polo, surfing, football, lacrosse, and more. Students also enjoy a variety of clubs, including Robotics, Aviation, and Harvard Model Congress.
The Academy also maintains strong affiliations with accrediting bodies such as the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), as well as membership in organizations like the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) and the Western Boarding Schools Association (WBSA).
