2015-16 Basketball Awards Announed

Basketball at Army and Navy AcademyThe Academy is very pleased to announce those Cadets who have earned awards for their outstanding performance on the 2015-16 Warrior basketball teams.

Varsity recipients include:

  • Juan Carlos Canahuate – Canahuate received the Warrior Award, given to the player who best exemplifies the Academy values and Warrior spirit.
  • Ed Fenzi – Fenzi was named Defensive Player of the Year.
  • Connor McClurg – McClurg received the Coaches’ Award, given to the player who the coaches most enjoys coaching because he is easy to work with and a joy to have on the team.
  • Richard Polanco – Polanco was named Offensive Player of the Year.
  • Aziz Seck – Seck was named Most Valuable Player. This is the most coveted award a team member can earn, marking him as the most outstanding player of the season.

JV recipients include:

  • Yoshiro Azano – Azano was named Defensive Player of the Year.
  • Zhiyao Li – Li was named Most Valuable Player. This is the most coveted award a team member can earn, marking him as the most outstanding player of the season.
  • Yongyi Liu – Liu was named Offensive Player of the Year.
  • Anirudh Reddy – Reddy received the Coaches’ Award, given to the player who the coaches most enjoys coaching because he is easy to work with and a joy to have on the team.

“It is easy for young athletes to think solely about their own performance,” said Milic. “Our athletes at Army-Navy realize that being part of a team requires thinking about and respecting one’s teammates. This respect carries beyond the court. It was with grade pride that we honor these athletes.”
