La Posada is a holiday tradition in Mexico and many Latin-American countries. During the holiday, Latino families symbolically reenact the journey of the Virgin Mary and Joseph on the night that Jesus was born when they knocked on doors asking neighbors for shelter. Families follow one another throughout the evening, singing traditional canciones from Mexico. The families knock on neighbor’s doors, enjoy a meal, and then move on to other homes in the neighborhood.
Army and Navy Academy will be celebrating La Posada on Thursday, December 10. Cadet Jose Velazquez is leading the event with the help of international Cadets and students in the ESL Classes. The evening will include traditional food, music, and a fiesta.
