The Warriors traveled to San Diego yesterday to play the Gompers Academy Eagles. In what turned out to be a rare game, the Warriors pitched a no-hitter but still lost the ball game, 0-2.
Pitching the no-hitter for the Warriors was senior James DeLucia. The Eagles scored their runs on a walk and a hit batsman followed by bad throws which allowed the runners to score. DeLucia held the opponents hitless through the first five innings of the game.
In the Warriors’ half of the fifth inning, DeLucia was caught in a run-down between second and third base. As he was tagged, he removed his helmet in frustration and hit the ground with the helmet. This caused an automatic ejection by the umpire.
Coach Larson then brought in freshman Isacc Glover to pitch the sixth inning and he held the Eagles hitless in relief to preserve the no-hitter. This brings the Warriors season record to 6-7 and, unfortunately, 0-2 in the conference.
The Warriors next game is at home on Tuesday, April 21 in a re-match with Gompers. Game time is 3:30.
