The Warrior baseball team played its final home game of the season yesterday against the Warriors of Rock Academy.
The game had a dual significance as it would determine whether or not ANA would still contend for the CIF playoffs. It also was Senior Day. To mark the occasion, MG Bartell opened the festivities by throwing the ceremonial first pitch.
Starting pitcher Blake Howard pitched a 5 inning, two run game. With the bases loaded in the 5th, James DeLucia came in in relief and did not allow a run in the inning to be scored. The inning was highlighted by a sensational play by first baseman,Mark McKee who went far to his right to field a hard-hit ground ball. When the pitcher was not able to cover first base, Mark ran and dove head first to first base to beat the runner to the bag and secure the out.
The ANA Warriors won the game 4-3.
The win left the Warriors with a 10-9 overall record and 3-4 in the Ocean League Conference. They play their last game against these same Rock Academy Warriors at Damato Field Tierrasanta in San Diego on May 22. Game time is 3:00. The game will be of major significance as a victory would clinch a CIF playoff spot in Division V for the Warriors.
After the game, the 6 seniors were introduced and honored for their contribution to the team and school. Thanks to all who joined us for this special game.
