Warrior Lacrosse hosted Foothills Christian for their second game in Pacific League play on Tuesday, April 29. Both teams traded early goals and were tied 1-1 after the first quarter. The second quarter was the same, as both teams were tied 3-3 to close out the first half scoring. Once again, both teams were tied at the end of three quarters 5-5.
The fourth and final quarter began with a fast-break off the face-off stripe for a quick goal by the visiting Knights. Another fast-break goal by Foothills added to a 7-5 lead and the Warriors were reeling.
After a few more minutes of good defense by both teams, Senior Midfielder, Elijah Countryman, scored from the topside area just left of the Knights goal after a nice assisted pass by Sophomore Attackman, Kendall Mathews. With five minutes left in the game, Senior Attackman, Luke Wilson, tied the game with a hard shot just past the Knight’s Goalkeeper.
With the score tied 7-7, the Warriors would not allow an overtime opportunity and shut the door and the game down with two solid goals by Senior Attackman, Nate Apeli. The Warriors played “cat and mouse” for the last 2:30 minutes of the game and won their first Pacific League game in their inaugural lacrosse season.
With five more games to go, the Warriors move into second place in league. Next up is a very tough away game against first place powerhouse, Francis Parker. Catch the game this Friday at 7:00 PM.
