Allissa Thompson joined the Army and Navy Academy in March 2016 with a diverse professional background that includes education, management, and fundraising.
A native of upstate New York, Thompson earned her bachelor’s degree in developmental psychology from Duke University, where she also competed in NCAA Division I cross country and track and field. She studied abroad at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia and completed an elementary education teaching certificate in the state of North Carolina. After returning to her home state, she worked as an educator and childhood literacy advocate in both the public and private sector.
In 2009, Allissa moved to San Diego, where she became immersed in numerous nonprofit causes in the community, including Boys and Girls Clubs of Oceanside, North County Solutions for Change, Challenged Athletes Foundation, San Diego Youth Services, and Marine Reconnaissance Foundation. In 2013, she spearheaded an international fundraising campaign for Interplast Australia and New Zealand that raised $180,000 for a charity challenge and culminated in a trek of the Great Wall of China.
In her free time, Allissa enjoys hiking, camping, backpacking, and mountain climbing throughout California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. An avid writer and photographer, she loves to share her adventures through her stories and her art. She has climbed Mount Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous United States, as well as Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the Seven Summits and the highest freestanding mountain in the world. When she’s not in the office, she can be found somewhere on a mountain.
