Though it was always Rosemarie’s dream to become a teacher like her maternal grandfather, it wasn’t until she taught swim lessons at the Recreation Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), that she truly found her passion for teaching. She was so eager to start teaching young minds that she graduated early from UCSB and enrolled in San Jose State University’s teaching credential program. Unfortunately, it took her longer than expected to have her own classroom, but Rosemarie persevered and continued to pick up jobs as a substitute teacher to gain more experience. While looking for a full time teaching position, Rosemarie ran the swim lesson program as the Aquatics Coordinator at the Central YMCA in San Jose and taught lifeguard/CPR/First Aid classes. After five years of subbing grades K-8, Rosemarie was asked by the principal (at one of the schools that she was subbing at) to teach 8th grade English. Rosemarie joined the English department at Castillero Middle School and for the next five years taught various classes such as 8th grade English, Long Term English Learners (LTEL), Reading Intervention, and was also the Yearbook Adviser for three of the five years.
After living in the Bay area for ten years, Rosemarie relocated back to Oceanside and started teaching Middle School English at the Army and Navy Academy (ANA) in 2019. She is currently teaching English 8 and English 9. She really enjoys the enriching and supportive environment that ANA offers its student body and faculty.
Fun facts: Rosemarie is a proud mama to a 13 year old Boston Terrier/French Bulldog and a 1.5 year old French Bulldog. In her free time she relishes traveling to other worlds via reading and dreams of owning a personal library with a sliding ladder like Belle in Beauty and the Beast. She also enjoys strategy games like Settlers of Catan and chess even though she isn’t very good at either of them.
