A MILITARY SCHOOL FOR BOYS

As one of California’s top boarding schools for boys, Army and Navy Academy offers a unique educational and developmental environment built exclusively for the needs of boys. We recognize that boys today are facing unprecedented challenges in life that begin while they are in school. The Academy employs evidence-based single-gender education techniques to help our students reach their maximum personal potential. Becoming an Army and Navy Academy cadet isn’t just stepping into another private school: it’s a transformative step toward lifelong success.

BOY BRAIN SCIENCE

Boys in middle school and high school have educational needs that are not being met in most public and private school settings. The current generation of boys is falling behind in school, resulting in a crisis in higher education and poorer life outcomes for young men. We address the needs of boys through relational teaching and highly structured classes that educate boys how they learn best.

VIRTUE DEVELOPMENT

Graduates of Army and Navy Academy are ethical, responsible, well-rounded members of society. We achieve this through virtue-based education that helps young men to develop resilience in the face of life’s many challenges. Our character development programs are proven to accelerate academic success while laying the foundation for a meaningful, fulfilling life.

OUR FUNDAMENTALS

Army and Navy Academy is a top private school for boys that is centered on a unique and singular mission: to forge virtuous young men for life. We feel that cultivating academic excellence and training exceptional scholar-athletes is the bare minimum of what a military boarding school should do. Our focus on virtue and character development makes us a unique opportunity for any young man looking to thrive in an increasingly challenging world.

Virtue is our priority in all that we do, a fact reflected in the environment of dignity and respect that pervades our beachfront campus. Our core values of Honor, Integrity, Respect, Commitment, Gratitude, and Courage don’t just guide our cadets: they are guidelines that motivate every member of our educational community uplift, serve, and inspire others. We teach our cadets to live these values every day and in every interaction.

WHAT’S HAPPENING ON CAMPUS

It is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the recent loss of two cherished members of our Army and Navy Academy Warrior family.

Cadet Bailey Lohman was a member of the Class of 2027 and a vital part of our Corps of Cadets. He was a member of our football, rugby, and lacrosse teams, a hard-working student, and the incoming Training NCO for Bravo Company.

Mrs. Amanda Miraco was the Academy’s Culinary Arts instructor. She was also the mother of a Cadet and the wife of our Commandant, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Roland Miraco.

We will be announcing details about memorial services to be held in the coming weeks during our Wednesday Chapel Time.

The bonds of brotherhood and fellowship at Army and Navy Academy are strong. We will face this grief together and honor the memory of these two beloved members of our Academy community.
For decades, the Band Company has been a core part of Army and Navy Academy’s heritage. More than just music, our cadet band embodies discipline, teamwork, and tradition.

Whether leading parade formations on campus, representing the Academy at community events, or performing at special ceremonies, Band Company sets the cadence, both in step and in spirit. Generations of cadets have carried on this proud legacy, showcasing precision, pride, and the Warrior spirit.

From the crisp sound of the snare to the commanding notes of the bugle, our Band Company has always been more than a unit, it’s the heartbeat of our formations and a symbol of our unity.

Here’s to the cadets, past and present, who have marched to the beat of excellence.

We’re proud to welcome Dr. Mark Ryan as the new Dean of Academics at Army and Navy Academy.

Dr. Ryan brings a wealth of leadership experience as a teacher, head of school, and former President of the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMSCUS). Since joining ANA in January 2025 as Director of Accreditation and Strategic Planning, he has already made a strong impact, and now steps into a key role shaping the future of our academic program.

A lifelong advocate for boys’ education, Dr. Ryan leads with purpose, compassion, and integrity. His commitment to brain-based learning, character development, and academic excellence is deeply aligned with what we believe in as a school: teaching with heart, holding high standards, and helping every cadet rise.

This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for our academic leadership and for the young men we serve.
