Dr. Amy Tsou

Teacher, LOTE Department

Amy Tsou was recruited to start the Mandarin program at Army and Navy Academy four years ago and now teaches Mandarin 1, 2 and 3. She is looking into developing Mandarin 4 or AP Mandarin in the next year. Besides Mandarin, she is also the advisor for Associated Student Body (ASB)’s volleyball club.

Amy Tsou was born and raised in Shanghai, China. She started her college education in Shanghai (Fudan University), and finished in the US. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1985 with a BA in Chemistry and Magna Cum Laude.   She went on and earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Maryland. Her interest in teaching Mandarin language came after staying home with her kids for several years. She attended Chinese teacher training program sponsored by STARTALK and American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages.

Amy Tsou loves to read, play volleyball and travel. In 2016, she led a student group to China during Spring Break, and hope to lead another one in the near future.
